FAQ
What is take-home pay on a ₩40 million salary in Korea?
About ₩2.93 million a month for a single person with a ₩200,000 tax-free meal allowance: roughly ₩300,000 of social insurance and ₩90,000 of income and local tax come out of ₩3.33 million.
What are Korea’s 2026 social insurance rates for employees?
National pension 4.75% (up from 4.5% in 2025), health insurance 3.595% (half of 7.19%), long-term care about 13.14% of the health premium (0.9448% ÷ 7.19%), and employment insurance 0.9%. Industrial accident insurance is paid by the employer.
Does this apply to foreigners working in Korea?
The insurance rates are the same. Some nationalities are exempt from national pension under social security agreements, and foreigners may choose a flat 19% income tax rate — this calculator uses the standard withholding table.
Why does my payslip differ?
Withholding can be set at 80%, 100% or 120% of the table, health insurance is settled each April, and bonuses or overtime change monthly pay. Treat this as an estimate.
What does “tax-free amount” mean?
Allowances exempt from tax, such as a meal allowance up to ₩200,000 a month. They are excluded from insurance and tax calculations.
